The Perils of Being a Psychotherapist

I couldn’t copy this post to re-post without a great deal of trouble.  A summary:  As a new therapist, the author shares the pain & burden of absorbing on the woes of her clients, and carrying too many complex cases too early in their career.

My brief comment follows:  “You write clearly and well.  The issues come with the territory for most new healers.  Given five years of experience and good supervision we can find quicker and better balance around boundary issues — and each five years thereafter.  Being in a good monthly Training Group with peers and an experienced leader would help a lot too.  A long process, and well worth it, as self-care is the sine qua non in our vocation.”  Bob Dick, PhD
